Targeting by location is one of key elements of targeting when it comes to any kind of marketing, because it can help choose the right audience.

Location can be defined in many different ways:

  • State
  • City
  • Suburb
  • Sales / Franchise territory

There are two key rules when it comes to choosing a territory provided you are not restricted by sales of franchise territory.

  • RULE #1. When you target broad range of industries and number of staff, it's best to start from a close by location and then expand across state and then the country.
  • RULE #2. When you are targeting an industry or top companies, it's smart to start from state or even nationwide territory.
